The TREVOR-SAFARI Symposium, hosted at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi, India, is a significant gathering aimed at celebrating the scientific contributions of Trevor Platt. This symposium is organized in collaboration with the Trevor Platt Science Foundation (TPSF) and will synergize with the third SAFARI symposium. This event represents a continuation of community-building efforts commenced by Prof. Trevor Platt, following the first International TREVOR symposium held in 2023 at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory in the UK, and the previous SAFARI symposia held in Kochi in 2010 and 2018.In addition to the symposium, there will be a pre-symposium training course designed for young researchers, taking place from 27-31 October 2026 at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) in Hyderabad, India. This training will be followed by a field trip to Vembanad Lake, Kerala, where participants will engage in hands-on laboratory analyses of samples collected from 1-3 November 2026. The training course is organized by the Department of Chemical Oceanography at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), further enhancing the educational experience of the attendees. This symposium and associated activities will focus on remote sensing for fisheries and ecosystem health, reflecting the latest trends, reflections, and visions in ocean research.
